The Caesar Rodney School District is partnering with First State Community Action Agency, Capital School District, the United Way of Delaware and Delaware State University to establish a Freedom School in Kent County.
Mission: The mission of the Children's Defense Fund (CDF) is to ensure every child a healthy start, a head start, a fair start, a safe start and a moral start in life and successful passage to adulthood with the help of caring families and communities. The CDF Freedom Schools® program provides summer and after-school enrichment through a research-based and multicultural program model that supports K-12 scholars and their families through five essential components.
When: The Kent County Freedom School will operate Monday - Thursday, June 27th to August 5th.
Where:
• Location 1: Fairview Elementary School located at 700 Walker Rd, Dover, will house grades K-5
• Location 2: Delaware State University Downtown Campus (Formerly Wesley College) located at 120 N. State St., Dover
How to Register: All parents must go to First State Community Action’s (FSCA) website to register (www.firststatecaa.org/coming-soon-03); select the “Freedom School Summer Program” button; and complete the central intake form. Parents will then receive an application sent to their email. If a parent does not have access to their email address, a paper application can be supplied, but they still must complete the registration form on First State Community Action’s website. We ask CR parents to send Cliffvon Howell (Cliffvon.Howell@cr.k12.de.us) a note that they have registered their child/children so the number of student slots remaining can be monitored.
We encourage interested parties to register right away as slots will fill quickly. An open house will be held in April.
Transportation: The Caesar Rodney School District will provide transportation for participants residing in our district. It will not be door-to-door pickup/drop off. We will pick/up and drop off from central locations within the district.
Meals: Meals will be provided for program participants (free of charge).
