Caesar Rodney School District swept the awards at the 2022 Delaware State Spelling Bee held last weekend at St. Mark’s High School!
Billy Scialla, an 8th grader at Fred Fifer III Middle School was the first-place winner, Reily Funk, a 6th grader at Air Base Middle School placed second, and 7th grader Pranav Kamath of Magnolia Middle School placed third overall. All 2022 winners received trophies and various other prizes for their accomplishments. The 2021 State Champion was also a Caesar Rodney student: Sage Sawhney, an eighth-grader from F. Neil Postlethwait Middle School.
After 12 rounds of competition, Billy Scialla was named State Champ after correctly spelling "surrogate."
Students from 4th to 8th grade from 46 Delaware schools competed in the 2022 Delaware State Spelling Bee. Billy will go on to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, DC in early June. He will face off against more than 200 regional spelling bee champions from across the country.
