[Important: go to the Grade 6-7 section to vote for Julie] Voting is open now through Friday, May 14. If Julie is voted as one of the Top 5 finalists she will receive a $5,000 college scholarship. If she is chosen as the overall winner she will receive a $30,000 college scholarship and Fred Fifer III Middle School would receive a technology award of $50,000.
In existence since 2008, the Doodle for Google contest had 54 state and territory winners this year. Julie’s Doodle, “Perseverance to the End,” was selected from hundreds of Delaware entries. In her own words the art design is meant to convey these feelings: “I am strong because of my perseverance. I keep going until I reach my goals no matter how big or how challenging they are. I persevere until the end.”
Fifer Middle School Art teacher Kristin Hutton, Science teacher Amanda Martin, and School Counselor Kiara Moore were joined by Google representatives, friends, and family at her home on Friday afternoon to surprise Julie with the news that she was selected as the Delaware winner.
