District News August 18, 2021
At a ceremony attended by District staff, teachers, local officials and family and friends of the schools namesake, the David E. Robinson Elementary School in Magnolia was dedicated on Wednesday, August 18, 2021. The construction of the $27.9 million facility was started in 2018, after being approved by referendum in 2015. A portrait painted by retired CR Art teacher, Eddy Seger, was also unveiled and will be on permanent display in the school library.
The school was named after long time Caesar Rodney School District teacher, principal and Superintendent, David Robinson. Dr. Robinson served as the District Superintendent from 1998 – 2004.
Mike Marasco, president of the Caesar Rodney School Board, stated, “The Caesar Rodney community is very excited and proud to be dedicating this wonderful new school building and grounds. It will be a significant addition to the 13 other schools in the district and it continues the tradition of our students receiving a quality education in the best school setting we can provide.”
The new 63,012 square foot elementary school provides space for 600 students and is the realization of a multi-year design and construction effort. Situated on over 20 acres, the campus was developed to allow for the separation of buses and vehicular traffic to accommodate safer student drop-offs. The layout also allows the building to frame and protect the playground area behind the main wing.
Signature features of the school include a single-story wing of eight classrooms, while the two-story wing contains 18 classrooms in addition to break-out Collaboration Spaces, a Special Education Suite and Teacher Resource Room. The school’s “T” shape configuration allows for a centrally located cafeteria, gymnasium, media center and Art & Music classrooms. The administrative offices at the front of the school allow for easy public access and provide enhanced security features. Additionally, the school exterior features low maintenance materials such as brick and metal roofing in conjunction with a front pergola and curved emblem wall rotunda.
“It is a very special moment to be able to have Dave Robinson present for this dedication. His career in education and his love for the students of the Caesar Rodney District is legendary, and this school could not be a better representation of his legacy,” explained Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald, Superintendent.
