Our middle, high, and transition-aged classrooms at JSC main site follow a functional life skills curriculum as an extension/modification of the Common Core Curriculum. The focus is on preparing students for independence into adulthood through experiences both in and out of the classroom. Students participate in community-based Instruction opportunities (CBIs), Special Olympics, and job exploration in our PAES lab and Agriculture classes as well as on vocational site visits.
Our high school and transition-aged students experience vocational opportunities within the John S. Charlton school building, such as the Brew and Gold café, laundry services, and copying center, and at job sites throughout the community. We currently have students gaining valuable job skills at Beiler’s, the Food Bank, and GoodWORKs at Goodwill.
