Delaware System of Student Assessments (DeSSA)

DOE DeSSA Updates

With the new Delaware State Standards, students are working harder, thinking more critically, and applying their learning to the real world. To measure students' growth and achievement levels, educators from Smarter testing states have worked together to develop high-quality English and math assessments for students in grades 3-8 and high school.

Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC)

The Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) is a state-led consortium working to develop next-generation assessments that accurately measure student progress toward college- and career-readiness.  Delaware is a governing state in the consortia.

SBAC assessments replace existing tests in English and math.  These tests are untimed, administered online, and offer significant improvements over tests of the past (DSTP and DCAS) by including writing at every tested grade, expanded accessibility features to meet the needs of all students, performance tasks that ask students to demonstrate an array of research, writing, listening, and problem solving skills.  SBAC is offered once per year in Grades 3-8.
