Mr. Paul Cava (Art)

I graduated from Temple University’s Tyler School of Art (Philadelphia, Pa.) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting as well as my Bachelor of Science in Art Education. I have received my Masters in Science degree in the area or Art Education from Delaware State University. In addition to teaching the visual arts at Star Hill Elementary I also work as an artist for private commissions from time to time. I have done artwork for Grotto Pizza which included pizza box logos, murals, and interior design as well as illustrating a children’s book entitled “Little Carl Clark” that can be found in our very own library here at Star Hill. My brother, David Cava, is the author. I have had the good fortune to work as a visual arts teacher in the Caesar Rodney School District for almost 25 years. This is my eighth year as Star Hill’s art teacher.

I have always drawn and painted since I can remember. I enjoy working in all different mediums but love painting and especially collage. I always have a work in progress “on the board” in my studio at home which I try to get to whenever possible. I have always been inspired by children’s art because of their unique ability to express themselves visually without worrying too much about how the final art product will look. This means they enjoy the process of art-making and therefore create amazing pieces that are full of spontaneity, energy, movement, and individuality.  This is a very difficult thing to do in art and the students here at Star Hill do it all the time! This is something I strive for in my own artwork and am very grateful to all the students I have had the privilege to teach over the years for sharing their skills and talents with me. You have taught me so much about art and art-making. Thank you so much and I hope you continue making art and being creative for many, many years after your stay here at Star Hill Elementary!
