District News - June 21, 2022
The Delaware Sea Turtle Project held a ceremony last week to recognize the Loggerhead as the official State Sea Turtle. Riaan Patel of Allen Frear Elementary was awarded 2nd place in the Elementary Art Contest Category for Kent County. Aiden Smith (2nd Place) and Madysen Myers (3rd place) of Caesar Rodney High School were Kent County winners in the Sea Turtle Essay Contest, as well.

The Caesar Rodney School District is proud to recognize paraprofessional Jossette Threatts, of Major George S. Welch Elementary School, as the District’s 2022-2023 Educational Support Professional of the Year (ESPY). This award is coordinated by the Department of Education (DOE), and the state-wide winner will be announced in fall 2022.

Michele (Missy) Snyder, a second grade math teacher at Major George S. Welch Elementary School, has been selected as the 2022-2023 Caesar Rodney School District Teacher of the Year. By being chosen as the District winner Mrs. Snyder is eligible for the State Teacher of the Year award that will be announced in the fall by the Delaware Department of Education.

The Caesar Rodney School District, Board of Education, students and community join in mourning the loss of former teacher, principal and Superintendent Dr. David E. Robinson. Dr. Robinson passed away on Sunday, April 24.

Earlier this week Fred Fifer III Middle School served as the site for an announcement by U.S. Senator Chris Coons about a $215,000 state grant that will expand the services of the Best Buddies Delaware program! Fifer students joined the Senator and representatives from Best Buddies to make the announcement.

On Saturday, April 7, the Caesar Rodney High School Black Student Union officers attended the statewide Black Student Summit co-hosted by the United Way of Delaware and the Delaware Racial Justice Collaborative. The event was a half-day gathering held at the Chase Fieldhouse in Wilmington to connect and uplift members of Black Student Unions & Associations, Advisors, School Administrators, and allies that support them as they fight for equity and justice.

Former Fred Fifer Middle School student, and 2019 Caesar Rodney High School graduate, Justin Morgan, recently donated a series of books to Donna Phillips, Fifer Middle School librarian, for all students to enjoy. Justin was compelled to make the donation as a way of 'reading it forward'. Justin explained that he "wanted to give back to the school and the librarian that helped me love to read".

The Caesar Rodney School District is proud to recognize school psychologist Maria Romanko, of Caesar Rodney High School, as the District's first Behavioral Health Professional of the Year. This is a new award recently established by State Legislation and coordinated by the Department of Education. The state-wide winner will be announced in late May or early June.

The Board of Education of the Caesar Rodney School District is pleased to announce that Dr. Christine Alois has been selected as the first woman and 11th Superintendent for the district. Currently the Deputy Secretary for the Delaware Department of Education (DDOE), Dr. Alois will take over as Superintendent on April 1, 2022.
